Winsor & Newton has its own range of water-soluble mediums specifically for use with Artisan Water-Mixable Oils. Specially formulated mediums ensure that traditional oil painting techniques can be achieved without using solvents such as turpentine or mineral spirits. This fast drying medium smoothes brushwork and increases the transparency of Artisan Colour. It is excellent for glazing and producing fine detail. Use with Artisan Thinner when painting in layers to maintain the "fat over lean" rule. Note: conventional oil mediums can be mixed with Artisan but negate the water-soluble quality of Artisan, simply making it an oil paint. Use of Artisan water-soluble mediums is not recommended for traditional oils.
