Winsor & Newton has its own range of water-soluble mediums specifically for use with Artisan Water-Mixable Oils. Specially formulated mediums ensure that traditional oil painting techniques can be achieved without using solvents such as turpentine or mineral spirits. This oil reduces the consistency and improves flow of Artisan oil colors. It also increases gloss and transparency. Slows drying. Can be cleaned up with water. Use when painting in layers to maintain the "fat over lean" rule. Note: conventional oil mediums can be mixed with Artisan but negate the water-soluble quality of Artisan, simply making it an oil paint. At this point, use of Artisan water-soluble mediums is not recommended for use with traditional oils.
