Winsor & Newton has its own range of water-soluble mediums specifically for use with Artisan Water-Mixable Oils. Specially formulated mediums ensure that traditional oil painting techniques can be achieved without using solvents such as turpentine or mineral spirits. This oil improves the flow, increases gloss transparency of Artisan Oil Color. It is particularly suitable for use with whites; pale colors. Dries slowly. Can be cleaned up with water. Conventional oil mediums can be mixed with Artisan but negate the water-soluble quality of Artisan, simply making it an oil paint. At this point, use of Artisan water-soluble mediums is not recommended for use with traditional oils.
