Winsor & Newton has its own range of water-soluble mediums specifically for use with Artisan Water Mixable Oils. Specially formulated mediums ensure that traditional oil painting techniques can be achieved without using solvents such as turpentine or mineral spirits. This stiff, quick-drying medium retains brush marks when mixed with Artisan Color. Resists yellowing. Can be cleaned up with water. For thick impasto, build the texture in several layers allowing each layer to dry first. Conventional oil mediums can be mixed with Artisan but negate the water-soluble quality of Artisan, simply making it an oil paint. At this point, use of Artisan water-soluble mediums is not recommended.
