Brights: Length and width of brush is generally squared. Similar to flats, but shorter hairs make a stiffer brush.
Fans: Brush fibers are spread out making it useful for subtle blending and for textural effects.
Filberts: Create a softer edge than a flat or bright.
Flats: Longer hairs than a bright, this brush has more flex and a large color carrying capability.
Rounds: Smaller sizes are typically used for detail work and larger sizes tend to be used for washes and filling in color.
Made from synthetic fibres, Artisan brushes perform like hog bristle yet maintain spring and shape when in contact with water. This is useful during long painting sessions with water mixable oil colors as the brushes maintain strength, a fine point and excellent spring. The brushes are long-handled, durable and perfect for working with thick, full bodied color straight from the tube. They can also be cleaned (when used with Artisan oil color) with soap and water, no solvents are needed.
